DAVID HEBERT
WINS 2nd LEG OF LUCAS OIL SERIES RACE AT MOHAWK
JULY
31, 2008 -
David Hebert of St. D’Amase, Quebec drove one of the most patient
and picture perfect races of his career as he out distanced a star studded
field of DIRT North DIRTcar 358 Modifieds in the 2nd Running of the Mohawk
Nations Challenge Cup / Lucas Oil Series race at Mohawk International
Raceway this past Thursday night.
Carey Terrance
of Akwesasne and Laurent Ladouceur of Alexandria, Ontario started on the
front row of the 31 car field with M.I.R. regular Terrance grabbing the
early lead. Terrance held the lead until lap #16 when Terrance headed
for the pits unexpectedly. On the restart of lap #16, Laurent Ladouceur
who was running second at the time inherited the lead with Pierre Dagenais,
Joel Doiron, Roy Tarbell and Kayle Robidoux following close behind. On
lap #27 Dagenais saw the opening he was waiting for and got underneath
Ladouceur for the top spot. But the 2000 Memorial Cup Champion’s
lead was short lived as within five laps, Kayle Robidoux, who had set
a torrid pace throughout the first half of the race, took the lead on
lap #32. Back in the pack, David Hebert started to mount his charge a
long with Mario Clair and Sebastien Gougeon. The three Quebec stars quietly
made their way up through and by lap #41 both Hebert and Clair had caught
the leader. In lap #49, Robidoux who had run a tremendous race up to this
point got a flat tire coming out of turn #4 sending him to the pits. On
the lap #49 restart Hebert grabbed the lead with Mario Clair, Sebastien
Gougeon, Laurent Ladouceur and Claude Broulliard right behind. By Lap
#63, Hebert began getting into traffic but it did not help him as Clair
and Gougeon weren’t about to lose sight of Hebert.
On lap #78,
the unthinkable happened as Clair had a tire blow in turn #2 sending Mario
around right in front of Sebastien Gougeon and Laurent Ladouceur collecting
both cars in the process and finishing the hopes of the three getting
a top five finish. This moved Joel Doiron and a steady and consistent
Perry Francis of Akwesasne up into contention for the top spot along with
Claude Broulliard and Jessica Zemken. On the lap #79 restart, Hebert grabbed
the lead flowed closely by Doiron. Behind the two leaders both Pierre
Dagenais and Jessica Zemken were on the move and by lap #88 Zemken was
able to catch 2nd place runner Doiron and make the pass and then setting
her sights on Hebert for the top spot with the crowd standing and cheering
with each passing lap. But Hebert was just too tough and the current Lucas
Oil Series leader padded his points lead a little more by making a much
earned trip to the Mohawk Bingo Palace Victory Lane and picking up his
first Mohawk Nations Challenge Cup on Chief’s Tobacco and A&M
Beverage Night at the Speedway. Jessica Zemken picked up a very impressive
2nd place finish with the “Ol’ Master” himself Pierre Dagenais
getting up for third. Joel Doiron and Claude Broulliard rounded out the
top five.
In the UMP/DIRT
Pro Stocks sponsored by Action Race Parts, Stephane Lebrun’s patience
paid off as he took a big trip to the Mohawk Bingo Palace Victory Lane.
Both Lebrun
and Ricky Thompson started on the front row with Thompson getting the
lead followed by Jody Swamp, Stephane Lebrun, Allen Peters and David Papineau.
Back in the pack, Travis Back was on the move and by lap #6 had moved
up into the #2 spot challenging Thompson at every turn for the top spot.
The battle was very heated between the two popular Akwesasne stars and
on lap #19 the two came together with Thompson getting the worst of it
spinning around in turn #1.
On the restart
though, Stephane Lebrun was able to take the lead and hold on for a key
victory in the points chase. Travis Back picked up second with Allen Peters,
David Papineau and Billy Woodward, Jr. rounding out the top five.
In the Pecore
Performance and Transmissions Semi Pros, Harvey Arquette, Jr. continued
his winning ways with a victory over Stuart Mossow and Kevin Fetterly,
Jr.
Arquette grabbed
the lead right from the drop of the green with Nathan Delormier and Kevin
Fetterly, Jr. right behind. By lap #7, Arquette began to pull away and
cruised home for the victory. Stuart Mossow, who started third on the
grid, finally was able to get by Kevin Fetterly, Jr. to pick up second,
with Fetterly settling for third. Mike Pecore and Mike Allen rounded out
the top five.
GILLES GODARD
WINS MOHAWK RACING PARTS SERIES RACE AT M.I.R.
JULY 19,
2008 - Gilles Godard
padded his lead a little more in the Mohawk Racing Parts UMP/DIRT Pro
Stock Canadian-American Challenge Series point race this past Saturday
night at Mohawk International Raceway by edging out the #2 man in points,
Ghislain Valade, in the 3rd leg of the series.
Both Godard
and PJ Peters started on the front row of the event with Godard grabbing
the lead followed by Jody Swamp and Dave Papineau who both had quickly
got by Peters who dropped to fourth followed by Billy Woodward, Jr. who
round out the top five. On lap #5 Woodward decided to make his move quickly
and early and took advantage of a restart to move into the #2 spot behind
Godard and try to challenge the Canadian Speedster for the top spot but
Godard was too quick and began to pull away from both Woodward and the
rest of the field. On lap #9, Woodward went way wide coming out of turn
#4 and Jody Swamp, Dave Papineau, PJ Peters and Bruno Cyr all drove on
by to move up in the chase. On lap #10, the caution was displayed putting
Swamp along side of Godard on the restart. When the green was displayed
on the restart, Swamp went wide and clobbered the front stretch wall sending
the M.I.R. regular to the pits. This moved PJ Peters up to be put along
side Godard on the restart. At the drop of the green, Godard wasted no
time jumping out in front with Peters close behind followed by Ghislain
Valade, Dave Papineau and Bruno Cyr. Godard began to pull away from the
field and had once again built up about a five car length lead on Peters
for the top spot. On lap #16, Ghislain Valade found the opening he had
been waiting for and was able to finally get by Peters and move into second.
At the halfway
mark, it was Godard on top with Valade second, PJ Peters third, Dave Papineau
fourth and Bruno Cyr still fifth. Back in the back, Allen Peters was on
the move. Peters who started 16th on the grid quickly and quietly had
moved up through the field and by lap #25 found himself sitting in the
top five. Each time there was a caution and the field bunched up from
this point on, the fans jumped to their feet cheering in anticipation
of a wild finish. But Gilles Godard kept a cool head and continued on
to make a big appearance in the Mohawk Bingo Palace Victory Lane and maintain
his points lead over Ghislain Valade for the championship. The second
generation driver Valade finished a strong second with PJ Peters finishing
third. The fourth and fifth spots ended up a little different than expected
as Bruno Cyr and Allen Peters who where running fourth and fifth at the
time came together allowing Junior Barnes and Jocelyn Roy to get by and
finish fourth and fifth.
In the Mohawk
Racing Parts Run-What-Ya-Brung special for the Coors Light Modifieds,
it was Brockville Ontario Speedway invader Paul Pekkonen in his #98 winged
Modified bringing home the victory in very convincing fashion over long
time veteran racers Billy Cook and 2007 Track Champion Dave Heaslip.
Billy Cook
and Tom Jock, Jr. started on the front row with Cook taking the early
lead followed by Pekkonen, Brad Shova and Casey Swamp. The veteran Cook
had his hands full throughout the first half of the race as Pekkonen was
right on the back bumper of Billy waiting to make his move. On lap #13
right after the halfway signal was given by started Austin Swamp, Pekkonen
made his move and got by Cook for the top spot and began to pull away.
Behind him Dave Heaslip had quickly moved into third right in behind Cook.
The two battled for second and third with crowd cheering wildly lap after
lap as the two long time veterans did battle on the big track. Paul Pekkonen
was not to be denied on this night though and cruised home the winner.
Billy Cook and Dave Heaslip finished second and third and were cheered
on by the fans as they crossed the finish line together. Casey Swamp picked
up the #4 spot with Brad Shova finishing fifth.
In the Pecore
Performance and Transmissions Semi Pros, Harvey Arquette, Jr. got back
on the winning track again and took a familiar trip to the Mohawk Bingo
Palace and Casino Victory Lane.
Arquette who
started on the poll jumped out to a quick lead over Kevin Clement, who
started second, and never looked back. Stuart Mossow, who started fourth
on the grid, moved into second in lap #2 but could not seem to mount a
serious charge on the speedy Arquette. Harvey continued on for the win
with Mossow settling for second. Kevin Fetterly, Jr., Mike Allen and Kevin
Clement rounded out the top five.
In the Helm’s
Salvage and Trucking Bandits, it came right down to two long time rivals
for the top spot. Joey Foster took the early lead followed by Ryan Helm,
Claudia Tarbell, Eli Gilbert and Henry Lamica. By the third lap, Tarbell
had moved by Helm for second and the battle was on. In lap #9, the two
rivals weaved in and out of traffic together sending the fans into a frenzy.
On the last lap, Claudia pulled right up on the back bumper of Foster
but Jody was able to hold her off as the two crossed the finish line just
a few feet apart. Claudia Tarbell finished second with Ryan Helm, Eli
Gilbert and Scott Mere rounding out the top five.
In the Bash
Brothers Motorsports Enduros, it was Corey Helm finally picking up a much
sought after and well earned victory over Wayne Jock who finished second.
Josh Jock finished third with Joey Jock and Francis Thompson rounding
out the top five.
JOHN LAZORE
TAKES DIRTCAR 358 MODIFIED EVENT AT MOHAWK INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY
JULY 12, 2008
- John Lazore of Akwesasne found out that baseball legend Yogi Bera was
right, it ain't over till it’s over, as Lazore took advantage of
a situation toward the end of the main event to pick up a big win in the
3rd running of the Pecore Performance and Transmissions/Leahy Motorsports
25 this past Saturday night at Mohawk International Raceway in the Coors
Light DIRTcar 358 Modified Division.
Casey Swamp
and Billy Cook started on the front row with Swamp grabbing up the lead
flowed closely by Tim Smythe, Cook, John Lazore and Delbert LeGrow. Swamp
got off to a great start just like he did last week but just could not
fight off a tough and determined John Lazore as John quickly came up through
the top five and took the lead on lap #10. Carey Terrance, who started
6th on the grid, had also worked his way up through the top five and on
lap #10, got by Swamp and set his sights on Lazore for the top spot.
At the half
way mark, it was still Lazore in front followed closely by Terrance with
Casey Swamp, Tim Smythe and Jeff Marshall rounding out the top five. On
lap #19 Terrance made his move and finally got by Lazore for the top spot
but Lazore stayed close not letting Carey out of his sights. On lap #23
it seemed as if Terrance had fallen off the pace and as he came around
to complete lap #24, his right front tire blew putting Lazore back in
the lead. The 66X car of Terrance came to a stop in turn #2 when starter
Austin Swamp displayed the caution and checkered flag together and Lazore
picked up a wild win and a trip to the Mohawk Bingo Palace Victory Lane.
Jeff Marshall had another great finish picking up second with Mitchell
Jock finishing third. Casey Swamp and Tom Jock, Jr. rounded out the top
five.
In the Action
Race Parts UMP/DIRT Pro Stocks, Louie “Action” Jackson returned
to the speedway and picked up a win and showed everyone that he could
be the man to beat in next week's Mohawk Racing Parts tour race.
Jackson who
started 4th in the field ran third behind Stephane Lebrun and Jody Swamp
for the first seven laps as the top two in points did battle in front
of him. Lebrun led the first three laps before Swamp managed to get by
in lap #4. Roch Aubin who started 11th in the field appeared to be the
fastest car on the race track as he quickly moved up through the pack
and found himself sitting second behind Swamp. On lap #9, Louie Jackson
began his quest for the top spot by quickly getting by Aubin and then
setting his sights on Swamp for the lead. On lap #13 coming out of turn
four, Swamp moved up just enough on the race track to let Jackson get
underneath and that was all Louie needed to get the lead and continue
on to victory. Jody Swamp finished second with Roch Aubin, Stephane Lebrun
and PJ Peters rounded out the top five.
In the Pecore
Performance and Transmissions Semi Pro Division, Mike Allen took another
trip to the Mohawk Bingo Palace Victory Lane and did it in convincing
style. Allen took the lead from first lap leader Kevin Fetterly, Jr. and
never looked back from that point on. Kevin Fetterly, Jr. finished second
with Stuart Mossow, Jerry Jock and Jay Montour rounding out the top five.
In the always
exciting and entertaining Helm’s Salvage and Trucking Bandits, Eli
Gilbert made it two in a row at MIR by holding off a late race charge
by both Joey Foster and Claudia Tarbell. Gilbert who started fourth on
the grid quickly took the lead on the first lap but did not have an easy
time of it especially when he got into traffic in the closing laps of
the race but in the end Gilbert prevailed and picked up his second in
a row at the big track. Joey Foster finished second with Claudia Tarbell,
Gage Bigtree and Kevin Mayville rounding out the top five.
In the Bash
Brothers Motorsports Enduro, Kevin Thompson picked up the win but he will
be the first to tell you that it wasn’t easy as the lead changed
hands three times during the course of the special event before Thompson
acquired the lead on lap #11 from TJ Herne. Herne ended up second with
Todd Marlow, Konkie Lazore and Wayne Jock rounding out the top five.
JEFF MARSHALL
VICTORIOUS AGAIN AT MOHAWK INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY
JULY
5, 2008 - Jeff
Marshall of Fort Covington, NY has got it all together in 2008; make no
mistake about it as he picked up his third victory of the season by winning
the 2nd running of the Big Boys Enterprises 25 at Mohawk International
Raceway this past Saturday night in the Coors Light DIRTcar 358 Modified
Division.
Bill Cook
and Casey Swamp started on the front row of the event with Swamp getting
the early lead. Swamp staged a great two car battle with Jeff Marshall
for the first nine laps of the event and held off Marshall until lap #10
when the caution came out for the #70B of Josh Brockway who had slowed
on the backstretch.
When the green
flag was displayed again, Marshall wasted no time getting to the front
first with Carey Terrance, who started 8th on the grid, right on Marshall’s
back bumper followed by Mitchell Jock, Perry Francis and Casey Swamp.
Terrance stayed close to Marshall throughout the race but Jeff seemed
to have the edge when it came to getting through the turns. On the last
lap, Marshall was able to get by one of the slower cars on the speedway
and now had a lapped car between him and Terrance for the top spot. Terrance
could not find a way around the slower car quick enough and that was the
edge that Marshall needed to win and take his third trip of the season
to the Mohawk Bingo Palace Victory Lane. Carey Terrance settled for second
with Mitchell Jock, Perry Francis and Casey Swamp rounding out the top
five.
In the Action
Race Parts UMP/DIRT Pro Stocks, it was Jody Swamp of Akwesasne picking
up his second win of the season but not before he had to fend off a tough
Allen Peters in the process.
Swamp and
Dave Papineau started up front with Swamp getting the early lead followed
closely by Papineau, Junior Barnes, Stephane Lebrun and Allen Peters.
Back in the pack, Ricky Thompson came storming up through and by lap #6,
found himself sitting second and challenging Swamp for the top spot. The
two cars battled hard for the top spot through lap #15 when Allen Peters,
who just caught the leaders, came in contact with the #37W of Thompson
with the end results being a spin out by Thompson coming off turn #4.
This put Peters right on the back bumper of Swamp for the top spot. For
the last five laps, Swamp had all he could do to hold off Peters for the
top spot but managed to do so and take the win. Allen Peters finished
second with Dion Oakes, David Papineau and Ricky Thompson rounding out
the top five.
In the Pecore
Performance and Transmissions Semi Pros, it was Mike Allen coming home
the winner in convincing style and making his second appearance of the
season in the Mohawk Bingo Palace Victory Lane. Kevin Fetterly, Jr. held
off Stuart Mossow for second with Mossow finishing third. Jerry Jock and
Jay Montour rounded out the top five.
In the Helm’s
Salvage and Trucking Bandits, Eli Gilbert finally found his way to victory
lane and got the monkey off his back. Gilbert who started fifth on the
grid grabbed the lead on lap #4 and then held off a hard charging Claudia
Tarbell right at the end for the win. Tarbell finished second with Cole
Cree, Scott Mere and Henry Lamica rounding out the top five.
In the Bash
Brothers Motorsports Enduro, it was Wayne Jock taking the lead from early
race leader Joey Jock on lap #6 and never looked back the rest of the
way. Todd Marlow finished second with Konkie Lazore, Aaron Carter and
Ray Gagnon rounding out the top five.
